just an excuse to test out the new brushes
.. or the new brushes are an excuse to paint?
keen to try and join in with this one - thanks for the pass Electra, should be able to have a shot tomorrow, unless others want to step in first, ah ah! super looking light, shade and glint on these as you say, Painovoima!
cheers Electra! the brushes really change the outcome yeah - its cool how you used them to add texture on your glow beetle around some of the edges and on the wings - gives a kind of fuzzy beetle fluff look!
Mind blowing stuff here, you nailed it `battery` ! 🤯 I don’t think I can come close to any of these, but I’ve never tried this paint style before, I’ll give it a shot!
go Painovoima! is it the trick of starting with really really dark colors, then layering on lots of very faint strokes of lighter colors, then being brave and bold with the hotspot type highlights? getting sharpness like Wizard has is a mystery to me! maybe a case of cutting around edges with a small brush?? or the flat brush? oo lookin forward to what you create!
Thanks for the great advice `battery` ! Gave it my best, but towards the end my wrist was begging me to chill so I rushed the legs a bit in terms of shading. But I love the new tools Peyo added, made the process so much more enjoyable, and I am surprised it did not take as long as I anticipated 😁
Beautiful work everyone, I hope to join you all in future painting panels!
woaAa! super definition and lighting, Painovoima!! the red on the background talon and antennae looks like that glow-through light effect thing! one crisp looking leaf too
Cheers, Battery, thank you! Yeah, the reference I used had a slightly translucent mantis, I was afraid I couldn’t capture that well enough, but came along ok, especially after I was done. Part way through, I scratched my head a few times thinking how I’m going to get the talons many colours in there, in the end I just altered the anatomy a little for the sake of time 😆 Think it’s missing one leg as well, ha ha.
Here was my reference as well:
