this is the backdrop for [strip 216](/strip/216) for this one it's a one frame and set to animated (to make it editable) there are no rules: you can use any strip for the backdrop

2022-06-25 18:08:22

right now it's very rough around the edges but usable you can set it up in EDIT strip for a backdrop you need the id of another strip (you can get it from the url of your browser; this one uses [214](/strip/214) ) you can use absolutely anyones strip (which no doubt might lead to fights later) known bugs so far: the backdrop is not shown in completed strips thumbnail (update: fixed) please be aware that setting it to a backdrop that doesn't exist might lead to undefined behavior (there are several safeguards but with all these crazy browsers who knows what might happen)

presenting feature requested by @TeeEffDee

2022-06-25 16:28:26

on one hand I personally don't mind it (but that is not really a good argument) on the other hand it's also exceptionally difficult to prevent: the problem is the nature of this site: you can change a strip to completed and back to in-progress anytime so the fix would involve turning off the bumping for in-progress strips too (which I kinda don't want like my idea was that in-progress should be able to freely exploit bumping for attention) of course if it gets annoying and more people complain I will change it but for now I'd like to keep it as is

tofix: - animations update even when they are hidden (update: fixed)

2022-06-25 14:45:55
ok for now I added the 'ignore friend request' feature to my local todo list

2022-06-25 14:37:16

right now this is intentional are you sure you want this to work differently?

2022-06-25 14:08:01
just some small fixes: - completed secret strips now should show up in user pages - color picker now shows the old color

2022-06-25 13:41:29
the real problem is I really don't want to add these things .. so it's another of those "have my cake and eat it too" situations I mean like they could just make a new account and things could keep getting escalated indefinetly.. to "drawception no new accounts" levels even .. and no matter how advanced the tech is in reality all I can do is keep my fingers crossed anyway I guess I just worry too much

2022-06-25 12:09:19
well it was just this little easy to implement feature (in very few lines of javascript) and that's why it was added in the first place .. so I'm more 'that escalated quickly' I guess (but in general I can see many ways things will go wrong already .. so far we have been sailing very smoothly as few people know about the site and most of you are mature and PJ veterans..etc. I mean we didn't even had our first troll yet anything can happen)

2022-06-25 11:58:51

this is the absolute maximum speed we can achieve btw (there is a limit for browser refresh and it's usually either 30 or 60 fps .. and sometimes it even keeps changing .. also the javascript timing is not that accurate either)

2022-06-25 11:26:18

I guess you could also use the rectangle tool to do the same thing (if you want to use transparency that is the nuke should always nuke it to non transparent)

I wake up to people already working on feature length disney movies 😅 # 🎥 🐭 (amazing!)

2022-06-25 11:18:48
ok it's back (in fact it should have been there in the first place it's odd that nobody noticed it before .. ) (ok it's more likely that it was noticed and I missed it or forgot about it again)

2022-06-25 11:08:52

also you can remove the borders of a strip in the EDIT (it's not in +new strip yet)

2022-06-25 11:08:15

(there is a bug where the ![](/gui/icon_eraser.png) doesn't erase the transparency from BG yet .. I'll let you know when it's fixed) (update: eraser should now work the same on all layers)

2022-06-25 11:07:23

![](/gui/icon_trash.png) can be now used to delete the first layer (BG) to transparency use the ![](/gui/icon_nuke.png) to erase (BG) back into a solid color (I guess it was the expected behavior anyway)

2022-06-25 11:05:55
(there is already a bug where the block quote is lost during an edit) (update: it's fixed now) (then again I'm not sure if it will be used a lot)

2022-06-25 11:04:05
@battery in a way, they are minimal and I'm sure you already know about them: for now please rely on either `secret` ##### (where people should not be able to edit at all unless you pass them the strip) or `friends only` to prevent this situation happening in the first place splitting up the strip would be a very delicate and difficult to implement operation so don't expect it anytime soon (or at all)

2022-06-25 10:50:20
`another new one is the block quote` text between these symbols: `` `` should now have a grey backdrop

2022-06-25 10:48:55
update: fixed the header markdown: # # now it works as the 'official' standard and needs at least one space after it (probably broke many old posts)

2022-06-24 23:47:55
# 👍 hmm.. I think that might be possible .. at least I have an idea for a really cheap and quick way do it ###### (I can't help but feel that things are slowly getting out of control with this new animation feature .. )

2022-06-24 23:36:40

# 👍

2022-06-24 17:30:14
mini update: ping-pong animation now added ###### (applicable for animations with at least 3 frames)

2022-06-24 14:36:56
@TeeEffDee # 👍

2022-06-24 14:36:06
mini update: now you should be able to test the animation without completing the strip ######(needs at least 2 frames for the button to be visible)

2022-06-24 12:30:45
i guess we are at 3 votes now .. so let's give it a go for now it's only for animated panels (you can only edit your own panel so it should be ok) and I know I already made a topic about this but: please do not attempt to edit old animations (because the backups are lost you would have to start the frame all over) also I expect a few things might got broken with this change (tested it locally and here too but I always miss something)

2022-06-24 12:14:28
OK, editing panels is now under testing.. expect shenanigans for the next few days (in general, all over the site) ### important: only available for animated strips #### WARNING! ### OLD ANIMATIONS SHOULD NOT BE EDITED! simply put: the editing relies on the automatic backup and to save space: after a panel is completed the backups were deleted for new animations they are now kept but for old animations this data is lost you can now set a strip to be animated in '+NEW' but changing it afterwards leads to "undefined behavior"! ##### so before you draw the first panel for an animation make sure you set it to be an animation (othewise if you attempt to edit panels you might get a blank canvas etc) also please remember that it's all under testing: anything you draw might be lost! so please try and use only low-effort doodles if you want to test editing panels I also expect problems with: - image caching (edited panels might not show up edited) - auto backup problems (had to change it a bit -- seems ok but you never know) ###### and of course there are usually the problems I don't expect

2022-06-24 09:39:52
darn this animation thing opened a whole can of worms 😨 so far I added the fix for the onion skin getting baked visibility should be easy but I'm not sure about if tint is possible ping-pong anim also sounds simple to add in the future for now you guys seem to do exceedingly well even without edit frames.. but if there are more 'votes' for it I guess it can also be easily added

2022-06-24 09:25:31

and here I thought this feature won't be popular 😲
